Isspey: A super-app startup founded by an Indian startup veteran
Welcome to Nerif’s newsletter!
This week we had a chat with Isspey’s founder, Shubham Arora to understand how & what the bootstrapped super-app Indian startup is solving.
The Elevator Pitch - Straight from Isspey
The first of its kind in India:
· to bring “messaging, calling (audio and video) and the entire gamut of apps” under one umbrella,
· to optimise the user's smartphone space alongside clearing up the cluttered interface of a smartphone.
We have built a single platform to provide for all the basic necessary mobile/web applications: the likes of Swiggy, Grofers, MakeMyTrip, Trivago, Ola, Uber, Netmeds, Practo, etc.
About the founders
With an overall legal background of 10 years, Shubham has worked with budding startups as their Director / Legal Head including Grofers, Mobikwik, Bharatpe for almost 5 years and have seen the intense operational drill at these now well-known start-ups from up close and first-hand, with their teething phase, the fund-raises, addition/ removal of business verticals making me well versed with managing a company operations.
Shubham has built this platform with Abhinav Agarwal. This is Abhinav’s second stint as a Founding member of a start-up. He has been building mobile applications on his own for his clients and helped them to make it go-live on Google Play Store. He is all of 22 years.
The Problem
The problem Isspey is solving is saving users time on browsing their mobiles and searching for applications on their phone.
The Solution
Isspey is building a super-app which will contain different aspects like ordering food, ordering groceries, hiring cabs etc.
Validation
Isspey launched it’s beta on the Google Play Store in the starting of June and they currently have 500+ downloads.
Competition & differentiating factors
Currently there are no super-apps in India, but some multi-purpose apps like Paytm & Zomato do exsist, but they are focused on one area, like FinTech, ordering food etc.
Fundraising
Prior rounds/grants/awards:
Isspey is currently bootstrapped.
Future plans for fundraising:
Isspey is looking to raise a seed round of 2-5M$, which they intend to use for hiring marketing and tech talent. They intend to reach 100,000 active users in the coming nine months. The seed funds will be mainly used for reaching these milestones.
